Death By Self Burning
11 June 1963, Mr Thich Quang Duc, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk burned himself to death to bring attention to the repressive policies of the Catholic Diem regime that controlled the South Vietnamese government.
Buddhist monks requested the regime :-
1) to lift ban on flying the traditional Buddhist flag,
2) to grant Buddhism the same rights as Catholicism,
3) to stop detaining Buddhists and
4) to give Buddhist monks and nuns the right to practice their religion.
While burning Thich Quang Duc never moved a muscle. It all happened at a busy intersection in downtown Saigon.
